Artist Statement for A Poem as Lovely

Trees are part of every human experience.
Even in tech-heavy modern life, they persist along city sidewalks,
in our furniture and buildings, and in art.
Like us, they grow, blossom, and die, and like us, each one has a unique geometry.
This collection emphasizes the essential, human-like nature of trees
by making ‘portraits’ of their various shapes, personalities, and moods.

"A Poem as Lovely," in an allusion to the Joyce Kilmer poem, "Trees."
All the pieces will feature trees in their variety of forms,
with an emphasis on light and vibrant color.
Each piece will also have a reclaimed wood frame
to reference the function side of wood and the beauty of wood grain.
